I was obsessed with TVD and then decided to try The Originals, it started off a little slow but when I say it is one of THE BEST series' out there im not exaggerating. TO is definitely aimed at a more mature audience. And hand on heart I can say it is better than TVD. Its not essential that you watch TVD before TO but there are some TVD references so will make a lil more sense to you if you have watched TVD first but isnt crucial.
