ONLY INCLUDES WHITE FEMINISM!!!! This movie was an absolute atrocity, Vivien (the protagonist) couldn’t answer a question on a college application the question asked what causes and movements she’s passionate about. She couldn’t even think of one so she texted her best friend Claudia who changed the subject because she couldn’t think of any issue/movement Vivien was passionate about let alone cared about. Vivien then goes on to ask her mom in which she replies that when she was her age all she did was protest with her friends. So Vivien listens to the song Rebel Girl by Bikini Kill, throws on her mom’s old leather jacket, and looks through her old protesting flyers, journal, and a book on feminism. Vivien then decides to run with it and starts a zine called Moxie and puts it in the bathroom, throughout the movie Moxie starts to take off and grows in numbers. BUT my main problem with this movie is that it is ONLY WHITE FEMINISM!!!!! They had POC characters and a token transgender girl and a disabled girl, but the movie never brought up any issues these other characters have to face. The movie was horrible they set it up to include intersectionality, but failed to do so and now we just have another terrible movie that follows around a white girl that didn’t care about any social issues until it became a trend, but only because it specifically applied to her.
