This is my favourite game of all time and it's one of those hidden gems that not many people outside Japan knows about. I'm not talking about the 2019 remake by the way, but the original 1996 version.
Yu-No is a classic Sci-Fi/Fantasy point-and-click puzzle/adventure game (visual novel) made in 1996 in Japan that never saw the light of day in the West, that is until it was fan-translated in English in 2011 on PC (which combines the original PC-98 version and the Saturn version's voice acting), and the protagonist's Japanese voice actor is that of Adult Link from Ocarina of Time. This visual novel pioneered the concept of using a timeline map (flowchart) to view different branches within the plot, which many succeeding visual novels took inspiration from. Games like Steins;Gate took inspiration from its genre, whereas Zero Escape and other similar games used its game mechanic. The map also allows the player to travel throughout the different timelines at any time, playing a part in the story to uncover the plot's mystery.
There was a remake released in 2019 that also brought a rushed anime adaptation of the remake's artstyle, but both of them are not as good, as they been toned down by a lot, such as the removal of sex scenes that initially added character depth and the dialogue is not as abundant and witty.
I highly suggest playing the original instead of the remake, not only for the more realistic character artwork, but for it's better writing/translation, and for how it is not censored. The music from the late Ryu Umemoto remains unaltered, and the heroines look more mature too where the adults truly look like adults instead of all of them looking like teenagers in the remake's art style.
If you enjoyed Zero Escape and Steins;Gate, and if you can tolerate h-scenes and a protagonist with a high libido, then I strongly recommend this Sci-Fi.
