Spoilers ahead:
I get it... It’s a thought provoking document of isolation and separation from the pov of a decent guy who goes through various psychological challenges in a morbid setting until he finds company and possible love with a looming timeline hanging over his head.
But... as well as the plot being thin, the story moving predictably slow and the theme being flogged to death already, the acting is horrible. The guy is line reading, the girl is solemn and I’ll explain why later but she was even bad at that.
There aren’t any interesting or creative scenes for most of the film and the guys choices are bland, idiotic and impossible to relate to.
What’s worse is that the whole movie is a mix of every other popular zombie film.
When he keeps a zombie prisoner - shaun of the dead and 28 days later
When he catches water on the roof - 28 days later
When he gets bitten and gets prepared to shoot himself if he turns - world war z
When he wakes up and every one is a zombie - 28 days later
When he exercises in his apt - i am legend
When he walks around the apt in the dust and smoke and the zombie snaps his teeth at the guy - world war z..... i could go on for days. I was watching the film just calling out the related movies to myself... every scene.
And what happens in the end? He ‘escapes’ his isolation and can move across the rooftops like the girl said he could and he can hear that other survivors are near based on the bell
Was the girl a hallucination of his after he shot her? Yeah definitely. I think that the whole movie was a dream after he fell asleep in the chair of his ex girlfriends apt. The bell tolling at the end means there are more survivors and metaphorically that means there are plenty more fish in the sea and that the whole isolation in the apt was him going through the depression of a break up. But even still that might have been a better film if that metaphor was explored more specifically and had decent actors. That main actor was so bad lol
People have written saying its extremely beautiful and thoughtful and I’m feeling like no one here has seen any decent films to make that judgement. I know we are all different but this is black and white. The Fisher King or Beautiful Boy or even If you need to include horror then Let the Right One In are beautiful films. This film is a mix tape or every other zombie film scene by scene and has bland acting with a terrible ending.
I dunno man. If this gets better than average views then I’m going to complete my horror story and sell it to be filmed because the bar is set really really low.
