During the Stabler-Benson era, the show was very good! I liked all the actors. Although, I always felt that the minor characters (not the actual victims) involved were a little too mouthy. I remember a scene when a senior woman said “She has been through enough, leave her alone” – as if like she was only talking to some nosy neighbours. That scene irked the heck out of me, and there were many others that had similar lines. When there is police investigation of any crime, I would personally do my best to help. But overall, even if the writers insisted on having such disrespectful/annoying lines for those characters, I still liked the stories they put out there.
After Stabler was gone, the show started to apply L&O Criminal Intent style for their episodes, which I did not really like too much.
After 2018-present, the show has become more and more woke. I guess they are afraid that if they don’t bring up current political/social issues, they would have a lot of backlash from the left-leaning public, or worse, get “cancelled” by Hollywood.
Mariska Hargitay used to be a better actress. But now, she looks exhausted all the time, and just runs through her lines monotonously, and also as if she is on the verge of crying.
I will only watch this show now if there is nothing else I am interested in.
