I really enjoyed this film. It’s one of my new favorite Scooby-Doo movies. After 34 years of an unfinished story we finally close the book. The ending is what’s throwing a lot of people off and I honestly liked it. It gave an open ending, although yes the 13th ghost they hunted down was a man in a mask, but it left off with open possibilities. This is a movie that made me think hours after the film had finished, and I love that. They closed the Shaggy and Scooby Chest Of Demons story but left open the chest of demons story as a whole for theories and speculation. Velma’s theory of the hallucinations was just her theory for something she can believe, and even in the end she doubted herself and didn’t reopen the chest. Vincent and Mortifer caught the original 13th ghost, among the other 12, and since Mortifer is a magician he staged his disappearance, and thus how he did the magical appearances as the 13th ghost. So I assume the real 13th ghost is either still out there, not really casusing mayhem since it was revealed to be Vincent’s Ancestor, or Mortifer trapped him in the chest and took is place once shaggy and Scooby opened the chest in the series. Overall I loved all the references in the movie, the animation is gorgeous, Maurice captures Vincent’s voice spot on, and we even get the return of Flim Flam. I recommend this movie highly, especially if you have seen the original 13 ghosts series.
