Weighed down by a melodramatic plot and a cliched script…..not a horrible film, but very formulaic….don’t pay money to see it just wait to it comes to streaming…..for the reviewers that say “don’t listen to the critics”….please, listen to the critics and not the payed shills..this is far from a 5 star film…they should have went the satirical route i.e Don’t Look Up, instead of taking it so serious like Deep Impact…except Deep Impact focused more on the character and had a compelling story…this had neither….the CGI was seriously lacking and at time cartoonish…anyone that gives this film a 4 or 5 is probably being sarcastic or where bribed or payed to give it such a high rating.

Wasn’t really any laugh out loud moments, an occasional smirk…none of the characters where likable enough and/or developed properly to really care…(this probably would have worked better if the jokes weren’t so forced and the film had a bit more tension and danger, instead of trying to be cute) Tiffany Hadish is about the only good thing about this and she plays it too straight to help lift the comedy level beyond manyof the jokes which fall flat…the people who are raving about this, giving it 4 and 5 stars, I wonder if these are people who where actually involved in the production of the film and trying to hype it up for obvious reasons, but I guess some peoples ideal of what’s a good comedy is different from others..I also think some people just get caught up in the hype of something and feel like they’ll be lame if they say they don’t like it instead of viewing things with an honest critical lens…and I’m not some film school drop out who hates on anything mainstream….this just wasn’t anything memorable

It so sad the All Lives Matter people don’t get the need to create black art when there was so little representation…. I’m only commenting because I’m so annoyed with the MAGA types who are giving this one star..because they’re so offended by CRT (even with that they don’t completely understand yet they still complain) that they want to go around the internet and claim everything is racist that doesn’t include white people…such an entitled, arrogant attitude to think that..the Wiz is not some anti-white..”oh the white man is doing us bad” film..so not sure why they want to complain as if this was an anti white film (as if they’re is one of those) Do these same people have a problem with the Magnificent Seven being a “White” Version of the Seven Samurai? All the white washed character? Or the offensive black face characters in various films? John Wayne playing Gingis Kahn? The Wizard of Oz is a fictional film…there is nothing specific in the story that says Dorthy is white…so people should really get out of their feelings I’m regards to the film…Diana Ross was an ok choice….they should have cast Stephanie Mills but I understand the need to have a big name to get the production…the rest of the cast is perfect in the roles….the music stand up to anything else from that time period….the costumes and set really captures the dirtiness and dystopia environment of NY in the 70’s… I think what would have been copying the Wizard of Oz is if they would have taken the characters and put them in Kansas and the emerald city of the Wizard of Oz… but this is a reimagining….there have been tons of reimagining of stories throughout history…but as much as some of these people want to act as if they aren’t blatantly racist…they are usually silent when White people play non white roles.

Enjoyable but very formulaic. Definitely for people who liked 80’s sitcoms and like to feel warm and fuzzy after watching a tv show. Pretty good acting by most of the principals,(as good as it can be with the paper thin dialogue they are given, but it a light, breezy tone so no crime there)also nice to see Idris playing the ne’er do well, which is a role I haven’t seen him play before, good on him to display range as an actor The girl is the worst part about it, her character is insufferable and they never give us any good reason to feel sympathetic for her. It’s probably not the actress it’s probably more so her character being poorly written. Could be much better without her. I honestly think the people raving about it are Idris fans because, again it entertaining but not anything close to Emmy worthy.
