It’s not a perfect film but there are more than a few good set pieces and the plot is interesting especially the nature of time travel.

The film is at its best when Algren (Cruise) is captured and forced to remain in Katsumoto’s village over the winter. This is the most compelling, fascinating and mesmerizing part of the film. The conclusion is also well done (in the Emperor’s chamber). The battle scenes are good but have nothing on Kurosawa’s Ran. Solid film.

Night and day compared to the original release. While it’s a bit lengthy the Snyder version places more weight and gravity on the story and characters. Countless moments of real poignancy populate this version.

Surprisingly emotive, with some very good dramatic moments that linger after the viewing experience. The direction is infinitely more solid than the previous outings of Godzilla and KotM. I also admire that the filmmaker finally made giant leviathans move with the speed that we would expect as opposed to defying the laws of physics. Will be buying this when it's released. A very good film.

Doctor Sleep does what few sequels can do: evoke the same mood and consistency of its predecessor but maintaining development of the characters in a Suitable if not adept manner.

An uncomfortable, mesmerizing view of our modern society and its apathy towards the disenfranchised. Phoenix’s performance is compelling and ferocious. The film never feels like it’s glorifying violence but illustrating how it begets itself. Not an “enjoyable” film by any measure but an uncompromising one that is a revisionist telling of one of comic book’s greatest villains. The music score figures in prominently to the film and I wouldn’t be surprised if it garners a few awards.
