This movie has an interesting concept, and it is undeniably unique in its own right, but its slow and poorly thought out pacing and a lack of any truly well developed characters makes for a very distant viewing. It has a bizzare and downright crazy plot, and at some moments its absurtity is almost laughabable, though whether this was Ari Aster's true intention when making this movie its unclear.
However, it does have something to be said for it. Midsommar certainly breaks away from many of the stereotypes that so many of today's horror films are laced with, and contains some original - dare I say a little too original - scares and creeps. Be prepared for sudden moments of gore that could be able to rival the Saw franchise, but also expect a long and dreary road to get there.
Midsommar has fantastic potential, but it ultimately falls down as an empty and dry tale, but with the occasional flicker of original & exciting filmmaking.
