Lazy, uneven, and very underdeveloped. They had multiple opportunities to develop and immerse themselves in black culture, yet never took advantage of it. Literally none of the characters or their relationships are developed at all. It’s quite obvious that it’s written by a white capitalist trying his best to be “woke” in Hollywood, and they chose a black man to direst it and brand it to the black community as something it isn’t. The movie is set in New Orleans, a hub for black communities, and you won’t even know it until the last 10 minutes of the movie. Horrible job of depicting the depth and complexities of the black community. At best, the movie can be a definition of upper tier mediocrity at certain points. Solid concept that was criminally underdeveloped, because it was written by people that don’t understand the community they’re attempting to portray in the first place.
