You'll like this show if you enjoy character-driven fantasy dramas - particularly those centering around character relationships (think Twilight). You're less likely to enjoy this show if you're looking for plot-driven high-fantasy. It certainly has the trappings and the look but the emphasis is on the character's feelings about each other rather than the events of the world.
Book fans will find it interesting to see where stayed close to the source material versus where the team deviated or made new choices altogether. At the very least, you'll want to see how they handled the book's rather complex magic system. It's got a lot of rules and is invisible which makes for bad TV - so obviously many different choices have to be made to shift from page to screen.
My biggest actual critique is that the supporting cast is brilliant but pieces of the main ensemble often feel lacking in their scenes (with obvious exceptions Rosamund Pike and Zoe Robins who are a delight to watch).
