The subjects tackled by this movie are very important and I suppose that for a watcher who knows little about them then it would be an informative movie. However, it misses the mark on so many levels. The main subject is treated in a borderline voyeuristic manner -- you never really know if she is a fully willing participant or if she is doing it for the money / help. The discussions of the actions of psychedelics are cartoonish and overly simplified, and the "plant medicine" vs "drug medicine" narrative is handled without any nuance.
Yes, this is an interesting story of a person suffering from addiction who was treated by iboga. But it could have been so much more.
