Ive read some reviews banging on about Australian stereotypes and their distraction from what ‘could have been a great show’. As an Aussie who has lived and travelled through rural Australia the depictions are spot on and give the series enough quintessentially kooky Australian humour and heart to balance the mystery and action. Equal parts black comedy and explosive action thriller, The Tourist hits all the right spots. Janie Dornan nails the lead role in what is a weird, winding, dusty, outback road full of plot twists and an outstanding support cast that make ‘the man’ with amnesia being pursued by unknown assailants look like the sane one!

This show is an interesting concept that is often difficult to watch. It presents a range of situations that have the potential to educate and enlighten but fail to address any real issues and it sometimes devolves into poverty porn. It says a whole lot more about the ignorance of privileged white people in Australia than it does about the real issues that face indigenous people. The main cast range from well intentioned to unbearably awful and at times I wanted to reach through the screen and punch them!
