Maybe the children who like Star Wars might not notice the absence of plausible motivation of the villain, the lack of logic in the script and might enjoy watching the fisticuffs and chase scenes. Perhaps, they won't mind that a supposed science fiction movie includes an interminable scene with the protagonist riding in circles on a motorcycle.
Unlike the other Star Trek movies, this one is completely devoid of any pretense of discussion of philosophy, sociology, vision of the future and fails even as an action movie.
If you don't like Star Trek, then you can't do better than cite this waste of a couple of precious hours of our limited time on earth as a justification. The perpetrators of this abomination suffered a great injustice in that this movie was not awarded even a single nomination for the 2016 Razzie.
