Glad I didn’t read print media or vox pop reviews until I’d watched this because I think Spaceman is a superbly elegiac film. Sandler is wonderful and Dano‘s voice - never mind the spider‘s endearing face and mannerisms - had me on the verge of tears throughout. If I have a criticism it’s a dislike of the Carey Mulligan character and her arc. I would rather it had been a two-hander between Sandler and Dano. But I do recommend it highly.

I was a fan of the telly series, but i was badly let down by this film. Luther’s psychological struggles such as why he has a „death wish“ go unexplored, whilst the serial killer is given way too much prominence. The film becomes unwatchable once the characters reach the snowbound lair of the killer. I fast forwarded through the torture scenes in the lair. The film was already too graphic with its delight in sadomasochistic „red room“ porn and it went over the top at the end. I regret watching this. A disservice to the Luther character.

The initial episode was outstanding, a rollercoaster of intrigue and excitement! It didn’t even matter that it was implausible an old man with health problems including mobility issues suddenly becomes John Wick to defeat a pair of assassins less than half his age. Unfortunately the pace and dialogue then slowly began to diminish until I got to the penultimate episode and gave up. Maybe I’ll return to finish it, maybe not. I agree with another reviewer who says the change makes it seem like new writers took over at episode three. Bring the dogs back in season 2 and I’ll start watching again!
