A Really Bad Music Nerd

Possibly All Them Witches best release, Lightning at the Door is a powerful album and one of the greatest examples of the genre that fuses Blues and psychedelic rock, Desert rock. It has its blistering moments with songs like "Funeral for A Great Drunken Bird" and "When God Comes Back," but it also gives you room to breath with bluesier songs like "The Marriage of Coyote Woman." I think the real genius of this album shines when the band fuses elements to create jammier and more desert rock-esque songs like "Swallowed by the Sea" or "The Death of Coyote Woman." While the bluesy guitar work on this record is outstanding, the thumping bass and the constant groove of the drums is what really ties this together. Lightning at the Door is, in my opinion, a must have record. It's the perfect example of Desert Rock, and it is one of the greatest rock albums of the 2010s and possibly of all time.

My personal favorite Oh Sees record, Carrion Crawler/The Dream has quickly become one of my favorite psychedelic records of all time. It contains many of my favorite Oh Sees tracks, and it even contains some of my favorite tracks of all time. "Carrion Crawler" is a great way to open up the album. It has an incredible and wacky guitar riff reminiscent of Pink Floyd's "Interstellar Overdrive," and features a great example of John Dwyer's very unique and humorous vocal style. Another stand out track would be "The Dream." It features one of Oh Sees most legendary riffs, and at nearly seven minutes it gives you plenty of time to get sucked into the groove that is set up by the incredible bass and drum work. Carrion Crawler/ The Dream is an incredible album for sure, and it is something that you need to listen to fully get what I mean. It is a perfect psychedelic jam that gets sucked in from the first track and never lets up.

Quarters! is one of King Gizzard's most refreshing and beautiful releases yet. It brings four tracks that are each 10 minutes and 10 seconds long, and each one is an amazing blend of folk, acid-jazz, and jazz fusion. The Opener "The River" is arguably their greatest song. It is an astounding jazz fusion jam with a electrifying instrumental section that utilizes the 5/4 time signature in a similar way to Dave Brubeck's "Take Five." This is followed by "Infinite Rise" which is an incredibly repetitive song, but also an incredibly groovy and entrancing song that you get so encapsulated by that the 10 minutes fly by. The third track, "God is in the Rhythm," is the most refreshing song on the record. It has a beautiful chord progression that stays throughout the whole song, and it is accompanied by some beautiful vocals. The closer of the record, "Lonely Steel Sheet Flyer," is a psychedelic jam for the ages. It is both incredibly interstellar and out of this world while also being very nostalgic and down to Earth. Overall, I highly recommend this record. It's probably my favorite King Gizzard album, and it is definitely one my favorite albums of all time.

One of Miles' many outstanding and mindblowing projects. The fusion of folk and world and jazz is flawless. You can even hear elements of classical within the record as well, yet it still remains a jazz at its heart. The opener is a 16 minute arrangement of masterful proportions, and it perfectly sets the tone for how stunning and powerful this record is. That energy is displayed throughout the rest of the record, and it constantly keeps you encapsulated in a beautiful mesh of Jazz, Classical, and World Music.

Not The Flower Kings greatest work, but, for taking such a long break, they come back with a strong and refreshing record decent length (compared to a lot of their records).
