First episode spoilers ahead. If you haven't watched it and you'd rather see the details while watching the show, don't read. I just watched the first episode, and I think it's awesome that they are crowd sourcing to find a diagnosis for these people. It opens up so many more possibilities. What I absolutely loved for the young woman in the first episode is that, after being sued by doctors for medical bills here in America where we have no national healthcare, doctors in Italy invited her to come take advantage of their healthcare and were able to diagnose in two months what had gone undiagnosed for 9 years....for free. At the same time, it makes me sad because America looks like a third world country in comparison. There are those here who argue that people don't deserve healthcare if they can't afford to pay for it. In this young lady's case, her illness was getting to the point of being debilitating. If she'd had access to the kind of healthcare they have in Italy, think of all the years she could have been a much more "productive member of society" if she'd known that all she had to do was CHANGE HER DIET. Think of all the people here in America who can't afford to have their ailments treated and who could potentially be taking care of themselves much more efficiently if only they could afford treatment.
