It's boring, directionless, and makes little sense. Overall just a waste of time. Nicholas Cage does a decent job acting but the rest of the movie is a mess. The dialogue is really bad. The characters are all flat and uninteresting. The story feels really bare bones and rushed, to the point that I just didn't care.

Painfully mid. It's not horrible. But it's generic, tensionless, and lacks any sort of gravity or consequence. Lots of loose ends and plot gaps. Little to no character development. The movie has an incredible set, yet does almost nothing interesting with the setting that it provides. The movie is barely scary at its heights. It was completely predictable and just generally unmemorable. Doesn't really do anything new or creative. The entire plot is generic and the ending is extremely weak.

This was a very good movie with one glaring weak point. The "main character" is a completely unlikeable and selfish POS. Throughout the whole movie, she fails her friend (who is really the one the audience is rooting for) time after time after time. She does basically no growing as a character and is just shy of being a worthless inclusion in the movie overall. Seriously, she's even absent for about 30 minutes of back-to-back screen time. Other than the film picking the WRONG character to center the plot around, it's a great movie with awesome acting and a very intense plot.

It's a good ride, but be warned. You'll get no sort of resolution. The ending is completely ungratifying and frustrating. I can stomach an unhappy ending, but this one really made me mad. The antagonists win at every turn and there is zero redemption for the protagonists.

Horror for 12-year-olds. Generic and no substance.

Nothing significant happens the entire film. The movie feels like it's going somewhere but it never does anything. This gets classified as horror but it is not that. It's not even a thriller. It is extremely dull and uneventful, bordering on a waste of time. I have to say, this had the most uninspired plot I've ever seen. The soundtrack is equally uninspired, consisting of lame ambient noises and a taiko drum. There's also a high pitched screech that repeats itself about 250 times throughout the film. Totally pointless movie, the only saving grace is the good acting.

This film was excellent. The acting is phenomenal, the scenes are very detailed, and the movie is highly thought-provoking. If you are enthusiastic about film and high art you will enjoy it. If you are looking for instant gratification, go elsewhere. This is not an action film. Go into it with an open mind and anticipate a slow burn. It is a very quiet psychological movie that takes place over a series of different chapters. It does not have a conventional plot structure at all, which I think threw many people off. This movie is a marvelous achievement in cinema. It is very different from the majority of movies, in a good way. To say anything else is false. The majority of the negative criticisms seen here on Google are just myopic opinions from impatient simpletons who expected something akin to Game of Thrones. It is not that.
