We watched this at home on our TV in the version with Benedict Cumberbatch. The spectacle all round is amazing in its lighting and sound, and the moving parts of the stage. The opening scene, in which hardly any word spoken, was so full of meaning and communicated so much about the story. This performance by Benedict Cumberbatch is absolutely mesmerising throughout the play, for example the range of physical expression was like drumming in the opening birth pangs. Overall a tremendous delivery of the creative vision Danny Boyle has. So grateful to have had the chance to see this, although on a domestic TV set it lacks much of the impact a live performance must have.
