Boring mis mash of cgi eye candy is how I would describe Aquaman. I'm so bored of this movie I'm writting this in the theater right now.
I never felt relatability with Aquaman himself. He doesn't feel like a real character dealing with real confilict. Instead he ends up with a Superman complex being an almost invincible superhero. And the villian feels like a stock villian twisting his hypothetical mustache at aquaman.
It's clear the only thing the director wanted to do in this movie is make some "cool" underwater cgi visuals. But nothing pans out a response more than a monotone "... That's kinda cool..."
There are some moments between Aquaman and the "love interest" were I can tell they were trying to make a joke and lighten the absurd seriousness that blands the movie with exposition. But none of it works. The director just doesn't have the comedic timing down for the jokes to work.
When the movie's not "trying" to be funny it's constantly explaining itself with exposition and expanding the underwater world. This movie feels like it's trying to push in all these different directions but nothing works.
The director James Wan is known for making horror films like the Saw franchise and it shows. He's out of his element and trying to make good movie with DC who is now known for there flops that don't hold up to there big brother Marvel.
If you like visuals and don't care about the plot then you might enjoy this movie. But be warned there are so many moments I found myself shaking my head and going "come on!" From the moment the "high tech pirate villians" have a sad death scene to the absurd insane fight at the end. Just like it's DC predecessors this movie flops in the exact same way. To focus on visuals. I COULD HAD WROTE A BETTER MOVIE!!!!
