Crikey. This makes the 2017 movie look like a bit of a Disney caper.

Beautifully shot but otherwise absolute dross. Mad Max meets Castaway and not in a good way. An overwrought metaphor of man’s greed. Questionable continuity… the stick that gets stuck in Zac Efron’s character shifts from one side to the other!

The ending, after the phone call when Oliver tells Elio he’s engaged - my god who hasn’t felt that pain. And while he’s utterly heartbroken, the mundane act of the women setting the table behind him. Heartbreaking.

I got half way through it last night and went to bed. Am struggling with the second half this morning. I’ve just expressed my incredulity to my husband that such a great cast is involved in something so crashingly dull. I shall persevere to the end. But on the upside, I’m now very interested to see the original Argentinian film.

Amazing. But too long (which I understand is blasphemy to many) but I found myself getting a bit bored with some action scenes getting a bit silly. How many times did he need to fall down the steps at Sacré Coeur??
