If you've seen more than six Marvel superhero movies, this film may not be for you. Dialogue-heavy, muted colours and devoid of explosions, this thoughtful piece deserves a level of concentration and attention that many others rarely demand.
The lives of abuse and control that these women endure eventually reach the point where something must be done. Each woman has a different view on what needs to be done and each contrasting argument is valid and convincing.
Do we stay and encourage the continuation of violence, or do we go and cast ourselves into a world we know little about with virtually no support?
The impossible choices of the women in this isolated, hyper-religious community must reflect the dilemmas of thousands of abused women everywhere.
The film could also be taken as an allegory of abused and controlled people in any part of the world in any point in history - to fight or flee in the face of inhuman treatment. There is no right or wrong answer but there can be hope, as the uplifting "Daydream Believer" theme seems to tell us.
Wonderfully written, filmed and acted.
