A surprising amount of heart and poignant moments are hidden inside this film. I wasn't expecting to be a fan of 'Tolkien'--primarily because I revere JRR Tolkien and have studied him and his works. This film is actually quite good. I think what's lost on many of the critics is this wasn't created to educate or biograph, nor is it directed to entertain casual LOTR fans. For those who already know Tolkien's story and stories, the film paints a satisfying backdrop of emotion and pathos.
