While I'm no connoisseur of the NCIS franchise overall, I do like the LA one for having very good individual characters (mostly) and a great overall dynamic. I genuinely like how a portion of each of the characters' "personal side" comes through in different ways. The storylines are a slight stretch sometimes, but overall they do a very good job.
Hawaii has none of those things. Individual characters are bland, the premiere episode storyline was too over the top, special effects were laughable (how does a small jet take off from a 500 runway and fly away so fast that it disappears from sight in ten seconds?). There was little effort put into developing any of the characters or providing any backstory.
If this show is going to stick around, it's going to have to dig itself out of a huge hole.
