This was excellent! I don't understand some of the negativity over this. It's an adaptation not a blow-by-blow recreation. I think it captures the darker themes of the book wonderfully well. It's a lot better than the first film. A lot of attention is given to the little details, including Lyra's life in Oxford and her passion for the North. You can see where the budget goes and it's not blown on special effects (probably why it's a more respectful adaptation than the film). I loved the opening which referenced the Book of Dust and the acting is superb. Good child actors in particular make a world of difference. I will be thrilled if they film the whole trilogy and really really annoyed if all these petty responses halts the series. For the reviewer who complained about the use of a helicopter and an airship - the BOOK has BOTH. The book also mentions Lyra asking the alethiometer questions before she learns how to use it. . This is not a mistake.Really excited to see the next one!!
