I absolutely loved this movie and I would think it will probably win some awards at some point. I think the writer was clever in the hidden gems she was trying to get across about the beauty industry, aging, women’s own self esteem and the pressure we all put on ourselves no matter how old we are. She was trying to get us to appreciate ourselves more with all imperfections and have better self- love.
This was very apparent in the end scene where Monstro was still wanting to be at the New Year’s party and was putting her dress on, earrings and curling her one strand of hair. She wanted people to embrace her as she was despite how she looked. Also when Elisabeth’s face is on the Hollywood Walk of Fame where it melts into the pavement was interesting to me as she seems free from the struggles she has endured with her body image issues and pressure she was placing on herself to be accepted and is finally accepting herself for who she is and is not being controlled by anyone to take the stage she is doing it simply for herself.
I am surprised by some of the harsh criticism here as I saw it completely different and thought this movie was thought provoking and clever. I am accepting though of all our differences. I am actually going to see it tomorrow for a second time and can’t wait as I am sure I will see a few more gems. Well done to all the cast and writers you should be proud.
