I generally love guy Ritchie's movies. I do... I love the cast. But i couldn't get through more than 10 minutes of this movie because of it's blatant disregard for reality. It's disrespect and misrepresentation for a country and its
people. I get that Hollywood loves making real countries and people it's villains. The evil Russian, German and Arab trope is getting annoying though. Do they not realise demonising a culture is problematic? I could still stomache the evil german Captain that deserved death. But the faulty Nazi Map, the comments about German food being pushed onto locals etc. i mean, sure, hate the Germans for being your adversaries, but attacking their humanity, culture and the reality is a different story. Not to mention the trope that the Germans wanted world domination is completely faulty, yes mayby at some point in the war after some success Hitler had Idea's of grandeaur, but the original plan was just regaining the land that was lost during the first world war. That is hardly a plan of world domination. I get that during wartimes countries demonised each other. WW1 Germany was demonised to get people to fight. Then the Germans and Austrians demonised the Jews (not the first to do so( think Merchant of Venice, the holy wars etc.)). Then the Germans again. In the Cold war and even before, it was all the communist countries especially Russia formerly Udssr. Then after 9.11 it was the Arabs. It seems it never stops. It's as if Human kind is desperate for one palpable evil personified force that needs to be stopped. Why take real countries and People, though? Isn't it time for a change?
