As was the case with 'Hell on Wheels' 'Deadwood' was criminally cancelled. Both shows are important to the history of America, as a nation spread westward. Extremely important parts of the westward expansion and creation of new States. Both series are predicated in fact/fiction. The movie was for we long suffering fans 'some form' of closure, however the ending with Al was arguably strange given he lived a considerable time longer in real life. Bullock was one of the premier law men in US history, his character alone is well worth a series. In fact many of the characters are predicated on factual people of that time. It was wonderful to see all the familiar faces even if 'Sofia' was played by a different actress. Milch's gift for prose is sublime, the actors stunningly artful in the way they seem to just fit right back to where they all ended. Two movies would've been better, or, being greedy more seasons. The material is still there. As is the magic. Gerald McRaney is truly masterful as Hearst, Ian McShane likewise, while Olyphant it seemed added even more, channelling 'US Marshall Raylan Givens' in small but important gestures. At least we fans received a movie. Even if for me it fell short only slightly. Vale 'the captain'.
