So, from all the reviews seen on the internet from all channels of communication it is not surprising to see those who thought the script, the direction and the performance being questioned!
Now, I too was quite skeptical about this movie and didn't want to watch this in the Big Screen. A decision that I don't regret as this movie doesn't have the content for that, having said that it does need some liking towards unusual performances and a liking towards thrillers.
I just watched the movie on OTT, and was quite impressed with the concept and performance. Mohanlal has occupied the full movie with a varied but yet outstanding expression and acting skills. The direction was also not the usual SK style but had elements with his signature. The concept does not need SK's usual panache. 2 places the director should have thought better of the audience 1) when Mohanlal sends the image of the writing on the mirror by the supposed spirit of the previous residents to Manju Warrier, and he realizes that the image hasn't captured the writings when the receiver here Manju Warrier saw the message. Mohanlal could have called her on Whatsapp Video all to show what he was telling her instead they continued to speak on a normal call, given that Yamuna (Manju Warrier's character in the movie) called him on his birthday to wish him via Whatsapp Video call. 2) The character played by Suresh Krishna (that off the caretaker Thomas Kurvilla) on being questionedby Mohan lal on his where abouts on the day of the death of the two people in question, he responds that he was outside the apartment, wasn't let in as usual but would have liked and agreed to all was being said by Mohanlal to him. Now when asked why he didn't let the police know of the presence of another Male person inside the mentioned flat at the time and day of the incident/death. His response was if the police found the evidence of his presence outside the mentioned flat, it could get him to trouble hence took the CC TV footage and destroyed it. Now, the person in question too would have been in the CC TV footage which could have helped the police enquire further and find te actual cause of death being murder and NOT death by suicide. So, in order to make the film some obvious information wasn't handled well.
