i first saw CARMEN at a place in DONCASTER i think it was THE GAUMONT IN 1973.PAUL FENTON,the drummer from Dewsbury, had joined the band.he was a friend of TEDDY PLATT,our guitarist, and my band,THE CONTRASTS,went to see them that night.i was blown away by thier sound and fusion of percussive flamenco influenced rock, which was very original and progressive for that time.1 had known PAUL since 1963,when i and JOHN BOYLE our drummer went to his house and he bought a deep metal- shell snare drum, belonging to JOHN.,who'd just bought a new LUDWIG drumkit.i borrowed TEDDY PLATTS copy of FANDANGOS IN SPACE[who thought of that title?]and recorded it onto my reel to reel tape recorder. Its a fantastic record, very under-rated and ahead of its time.DAVID BREARLEY ,BASS GUITARIST with" THE CONTRASTS" "I CAN"T GET YOU OUT OF MY MIND"
