The film was made well, but...The main character is selfish and absolutely horrible to his wife. He is mentally and physically abusive to her. He uses her indigenous roots to belittle her. He makes her believe she's to blame for everything wrong in their relationship. Even after she finds out he's gay, all she asks of him is to maintain an image out of respect for her (afterall, she's been ridiculed by other women in their circle for her husband's long dinner dates). He has zero respect for her and merely used her to leverage her father's status for his own political gain. Almost all the other men in the club are equally selfish, leaving their wives at home while they have their little parties. It shows how selfish this club was. And through the main character, the abusive lengths at least one of them would go to instead of just not getting married, or letting his wife go to find love somewhere else. It's difficult to even justify that they kept their wives around like some kind of accessory to their straight identity because they didn't even try to pretend outside of that. At least from the perspective of the main characters family life, it was like he could careless about pretending and acting; he just wanted is wife to deal with all the pain of answering questions.
