Pros:
- The game looks great. It is certainly part of the reason I backed it on Kickstarter.
- I quite like the platforming. It has a Megaman X feel to it. However, it does take a while to get used to and it isn't quite as seamless as I would like. Regardless, it's quite nice.
Cons:
- The story isn't particularly engaging. The overall plot is pretty basic save the world fare. I can live with that. It's the character beats that are really weak. The supporting cast is rather one-dimensional, including the fan-favorite Rasmi.
The main character, Ajna, is quite off-putting. She generally has a spunky cutesy-may-care attitude about 90% of the time, then suddenly changes her personality when the plot requires it. Even half-way though when she has her much-desired moment of humility and self reflection, it doesn't quite land as she retains her base personally. The only change is that she no longer projects the one personality trait (impatient selfishness) that she never really showed except when the plot demanded it anyway.
This leads to the overall issue with the story: it's writing. With a competent writer at the helm, I think at least Ajna could have been a compelling character. Also, they could have eased off on the bad jokes. Much more content would be required for the side-characters.
It's barely passable writing for children, but for adults who crave more substance, it's sorely lacking.
Mixed
- Battle System is a bit too simplistic. There is no off-battle customization aside from changing party members: no items, no equipment, nothing.
And the combat is quite simple once you get the hang of the gameplay loop. Pretty easy game overall.
Now I don't hate it: it does feel good when you got a team jelling together and wrecking enemies. But I wish there was more to it, especially outside of combat.
Conclusion: Indivisible is a beautiful, simple RPG with Megaman X style platforming in a Metroid-designed world. A basic plot and weak writing hold it back.
It's a fine game for those new to RPGs and good story, but leaves veterans like me wanting more (and in the case of story, something better).
