I actually really like this film, it's my second favourite out of the entire franchise just behind the original film. Although I understand why some people do not like it, I believe Colin Trevorrow did a really good job. It's a lot of pressure to continue huge franchises like this and he did take it on a path that made sense.
I've dived into the analysis side of the film as it is a part of my work and this film brings in the old side of Jurassic Park with (obviously) the dinosaurs and the concept of humans pushing the limits of science. Through the first film, it is made clear that John Hammond and Henry Wu etc. are simply seeing what they can do and not having a clear stopping point. Ian Malcolm makes this especially clear with his quote of "Yeah, yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should."
We then get the new side of Jurassic World, which reflects the undeniable nature of human beings and our inability to be happy with our advancements. The incorporation of the hybrid dinosaurs just makes sense for the continuation of the franchise and what it would be like if Jurassic Park/World was something in real life.
People also say that the special effects were bad. I wholeheartedly disagree with this, as it was not bad. Of course, there is a limit to what we can do with special effects and CGI, however it makes sense that if humans (especially adults) know something is fake, like dinosaurs, then of course the dinosaur is going to look fake. The special effects were not bad, anyone who says this is just trying to unfairly critique the film.
The argument that the dinosaurs couldn't be the size they are or they didn't look like that in real life, IT IS DELIBERATE. Jurassic World is obviously going to make the Mosasaur giant in order to pull in more customers and make investors say, "Wow!" It is a necessary part of the film to show audiences that the park is purely for making money, it is a theme park after all.
Look, in all honesty, I adore this film. Jurassic Park/World is a huge part of my childhood and I believe Colin Trevorrow did a great job with the film and the direction of the franchise.
Jurassic World is a great movie to watch regardless of whether you're analyzing it or just wanting a fun, action packed film for a night in. The character arks are fairly good, wouldn't say they are brilliant, however if you're watching for fun, it's fine. The Indominus is a great antagonist, and the film will have you on the edge of your seat at times.
The soundtrack is great, the moments of silence and loud music is really well done.
It ties in both sides of the franchise and is a great movie to watch. Probably wouldn't recommend allowing young children watch it, the original Jurassic Park gave me really bad nightmares as a kid and I can imagine this one doing the same to younger audiences.
4/5, docking a star because character arks lack a bit and 2 or 3 scenes make me cringe every time I watch it.
(If you still think Colin Trevorrow did a bad job etc. just search for the original plans/scripts for Jurassic Park 4. Honestly, the original path they were gonna take it are beautiful in the way they were so bad they were good.)
