A wonderful start to a wonderful set of movies. Both intellectually and emotionally arresting. No action scenes or special effects and no huge overt drama but a powerful play of connection and longing. Its beauty is found in its simplicity.
The film captures the essence of time. While in the later films of this trilogy we find that time is not on Jesse and Celine's side, the stars are aligned in this film. By happenstance they meet and equally fortunate, they have the time to be together. We get to feel how precious moments are and how life is defined un-uniformly by those powerful moments. Just as Jesse and Celine realize they have strong feelings for each other, as wonderful as that is, they also equally realize how their time together is rapidly whittling down to zero.
