Comedy hammy horror kids’ stuff - mere surface thrills and spills. Should have expected nothing more from the makers of Dr Who + Sherlock. Almost devoid of the ideas and moral/ psychological complexity that made Bram Stoker’s original truly frightening. I laughed throughout - not because it was funny (a couple of genuinely witty lines, I grant you) but at how absurd it all was. How any grown person could possibly find this scary is beyond me. The lead actor Claes Bang does have sexual charisma though, and could have been seductively sinister in a more grown up adaptation more focused on fear than explicit horror.
