I cannot remember the last time I enjoyed a show as much as this - utterly compelling from the first few minutes, a testament to the superb acting and brilliant script - and such a lovely wander down Memory Lane, reliving and reminiscing the fabulous fashion and music of the 80s. The unpredictably dangerous yet vulnerable character of Joan who manages to constantly scupper her own chances of reuniting with her daughter through a series of mainly self-inflicted events, balanced by the charm, intrigue and devotion of the wonderful Boisie. This series had everything - romance, humour, tension, frustration, joy, heartbreak - I loved every second of it and didn't want it to end - simply brilliant.

The epitome of that rare combination - heartwarming yet heartbreaking ... For me, Laurel and Hardy were the definition of brilliant slapstick and unrivalled comedic timing - you either have it or you don't, you cannot be taught this. For all entertainers in everyday life (be it actors, singers or whatever), audiences are quite rightly only concerned with enjoying their talents, and little thought is given to what is going on behind the scenes - this film shows utter determination in adversity, while capturing the essence of their very special relationship - and revealing Stan's driving force. As true professionals, the show must always go on, whatever the personal cost ... I smiled through the tears of this wonderfully poignant portrayal - incredibly touching.

This is an utterly delicious cocktail of ingredients and influences from the late greats of 70s/80s soul but make no mistake, this is no cheap imitation or lukewarm tribute - uniquely brilliant, it stands head and shoulders alongside (or even above) the very best of that era. From the magnificent "Leave the door open", to the clever injection of humour in "Smokin' out the window", and the heart-achingly beautiful "Put on a smile" (my personal favourite), the wonderfully feel-good "Skate" and as for "Blast off", oh my goodness ... I've always been grateful to be lucky enough to experience some classic albums and artists in my lifetime - but as an old school soul girl at heart, this album has blown many out of the water ... Really cannot express how much I love this - truly a masterpiece.
