A charming and enthralling movie. It succeeds where 99% of horrors fail miserably and that’s in making you care about the characters. From the off, strong performances and plenty of bone dry, laugh out loud dialogue makes it a treat. I laughed a lot in the same way I laugh at the Sopranos or the Wire. I see this as a horror in a similar vein as Bubba Ho Tep, also sharing the themes of old age and vulnerability in an action/ horror setting, but less overtly comic and more intense drama wise. It also balances gripping horror with tenderness and humour. Nic Damici’s central performance as a blind, cantankerous war veteran is spotless. From the start I was charmed by his portrayal of a razor sharp, tough as nails old man with, and I say again, hilarious, bone dry dialogue. Great little movie, especially if you dig the likes of Dog Soldiers and Bubba Ho Tep.
