Look! I am a huge mortal Kombat fan, been so since 1994. The reaction to the trailer for this movie was massive, and should speak for its self regardless of how this movie will ultimately be perceived. I just hope that the people of Warner Brothers and HBO know that they have something with Mortal Kombat that could potentially by like Game of Thrones or the DC cinematic universe, but they have to stick a little closer to canon. This movie had great fight scenes and special effects. But I just don’t think the producers and director quite respected the project enough to know what a potential epic they had in their hands when they were making it, until, of course when it was finally finished and all the fans around the world reacted so energetically to the first trailer. By then however, the film was finished, and the damage was done. It is what it is. But it can be saved. Just make a television show. Throw what money can be spared on the first season, stick close to scorpion and Sub-Zero’s rivalry and of course the subterfuge of Quan-Chi, keep it fun, keep it violent, and please if possible get back Joe Taslim and Hiroyuki Sanada cause they were excellent. I think it would be a hit show if the creators behind it are true enough to the spirit of the franchise. The beginning to this movie was so perfect. I just wanted to follow scorpion into hell and watch him rise up to fight sub-zero, but unfortunately the story went elsewhere and got really confusing really fast. There’s too much to tell. There’s too much to divulge in only one hour and some change. Mortal Kombat needs to be a series. And most importantly, it needs to stay in the universe the video game already built for it throughout its 27 years of life. Anyway, that’s just my opinion. Not really gonna waste time trying to downplay a movie that just didn’t have enough time, money, or understanding of its source material. They did a great job with what they had. I was just hoping for much more.
