This is a genre film targeting fans of the original. The plot is complicated, dark, and sometimes gruesome. Episode 7 is fantastic and even has some funny bits. The tiny puppets were amazing! The female characters are strong and relatable, while the males are cliche and predictable and save the day. While there’s an emphasis on females, the males usually save the day. DC:AOR is definitely dark, violent, sometimes disturbing, and often gruesome. I would not recommend it for small children. The puppets are fun to watch, and the photography is creative. We kept falling asleep in it, not finding the story very compelling. It’s good, not great. Unless you are big into dark fantasy or love the original, this probably isn’t worth ten hours. Watch the first episode or two, skip to 7, and then watch 10 to get you ready for the 1982 movie.

Surprisingly watchable! I grew up on TMNT, but the two people I watched the movie with didn’t. We all marveled at the illustrative style of the film. It’s gorgeous to watch. Yeah, it’s got some plot weaknesses, and there’s some middle school humor — it’s TMNT for pity’s sake, not Oppenheimer. Our viewers left wanting to know more about TMNT, the graphics are simply outstanding, and we enjoyed it. It’s a good end of summer film for the family.

That was truly awful. Dull plot line. Unbelievably bad dialogue. Batman of the 60s had better action scenes. It is not a lie that when Batman looked over the flooded colliseum, I was hoping he’d jump so the film could finally end. Then he did! But he didn’t die, and it just kept going and going. If I had not been in a theater that served meals and needed my bill I’d have left. It was unbelievably bad.

All Trek first episodes are weak (though DS9 and Discovery did better). It takes time to get rolling, and that’s okay. Nobody wants to peak the first season Like Lost did — give us a few seasons. The plot for the first episode was not great. We like the premise of second contacts awkwardness. This could be fun going forward. We felt there was a little too much going on, but we laughed in places, and I enjoyed the characters. I appreciate that Star Trek doesn’t take itself so seriously that it can’t laugh at itself. Nothing like this could come out of That Other Star Show. The Trek universe is more real and more diverse and still has space to expand. Looking forward to more Lower Decks!
