I hope to God that nobody sees this and thinks these dangerous, deadly, and offensive representations of how to interact with autistic people should ever be emulated in real life. This movie has a real possibility of getting members of the community it is a “love letter” to killed by advocating cruel restraint methods banned in over 30 states. This movie is not just offensive to the autistic community it is offensive to any person with functioning eyes and ears. It’s directed as though Sia took the saying that autistic people see the world differently to mean they see it like some sort of musical psychedelic hallucination. It is not for me, Sia, or any other neurotypical individual to be telling people what the autistic experience is without bothering to talk to any of them or include them at all in the process. Sia should be ashamed and embarrassed but that is wishful thinking as her Twitter has shown that shame seems to be something she is incapable of. The only thing this insult to the craft of directing is good for is exposing the Golden Globes and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for the ableist inspiration porn guzzling hot messes of institutions that they are, and the only thing it is fit for is incineration. My only regret is that Google does not allow me to submit a review of zero stars.
