If indeed this was a first film of debutante director and debutante actors, then make no mistake as this film is superbly directed with well fleshed out acting by two young actors. The title Sheherazade is a film dedicated to the marginalized sections of the French society who emigrated decades back to Europe, especially, to France in search of a better quality of life which is constantly denied to its young protagonists Zach and Sheherazade. With no parental support, their criminal background, the vulnerable streets, the only way to earn money is through prostitution for Sheherazade and pimping for Zach. Amidst this scene of chaos, misery, and negativity, it is only love and trust that can bring any certain hope for redemption. Love and trust between two teenagers where Zach eventually stands up and supports "my girl" Sheherazade when she had been brutally raped by his own friends. In spite of the hardships he faces in prison and violence meted out for being a "snitch," though he has lost vision in his one eye, there is no love lost and the lovers aspire and dream for a better life just like their forefathers. I greatly enjoyed watching this moving film.
