Oh dear. I knew this was in production a while back and, like so many others, thought “YES! At last a faithful version set in Surrey in the late 19th century”. The trailer looked really good too. So why, then, radically alter the plot and characters, move it forward 20 years into the 20th century and completely abandon the hypnotic unscrewing of the cylinder, first appearance of a Martian and the funnel heat-ray. What was that black oil sphere all about?!?
Some solid actors here struggling with a pedestrian, student film script. Really over-long and, as someone else here said, like an extended Doctor Who episode without the humour and charm.
What a missed opportunity. Three hours of my life I won’t get back. H G Wells will hopefully have finished turning in his grave by the time someone eventually makes a decent version faithful to the story and themes of the book.
