I absolutely loved this so I'm surprised to see so many negative reviews. The ambiguity about if the group are genuinely hearing a shared noise and what the noise is vs are they a group of lost souls who've been seduced into a cult - like group is perfect. It is up to us the viewer to make of it what we will. As someone who has been through a spiritual awakening, I can clearly see what the writer was getting at as a main theme - who are really the mad ones here, the group or how "normal" society functions. It touches on so many profound issues.

For the first half of the film I was thinking this is great and I was hooked. But then it started to feel drawn out. It also didn't help that I couldn't warm to anyone except Dan Levy's character. As it became more about them as well I just wasent bothered. I was really just waiting for it to finish towards the end rather than being engrossed in it. As much as I love Dan Levy I'm not sure he has the emotional range to portray what is supposed to be deep grief well enough. It needed an actor who could sob tears rather than pretend to cry with not even one tear on his face.

I laughed a couple of times but overall it was disappointing. Some of the accents are terrible! Why did Harry sound Australian for example. I'd keep watching if it was on free to air or a streaming service I already pay for but this isn't good enough to fork out for another service.

In a way the film reminded me of a Woody Allen movie but darker and weirder. I loved it! The acting from the whole cast is sublime. I'd rather the cat had talked through the medium rather than directly out loud. Give me a quirky independent movie over a brain dead blockbuster any day.

Without doubt this was one of the best programmes I've ever seen. Everything including the script, acting and cinematography is just perfection. Ryan Murphy is synonymous with quality drama in my eyes and can do no wrong. I hope the the leads won multiple awards.
