In the modern times of the all-mighty-dollar defining what ends up on the silver screen, I feel we are lucky to receive a movie like this.
It was a fresh, new take on Evil Dead, contained plenty of the tropes from the original movies and had lots of respectful nods to horror of the past.
Acted well enough, good script with lots of fore-shadowing, excellent sound design, some great shots and lots of squirm-in-your-seat gore.
While it wasn't so subtle, there was also a subtext of tokophobia running throughout with lots of imagery revolving around pregnancy, birth and abortion.
And for a mainstream horror, it was refreshingly surprising to see the kids being fair game.
I wouldn't give this movie 5 stars but as far as scoring systems work on Google, it's either good or bad, and I want more.
If you're upset that this isn't a classic Evil Dead movie, just go watch something with Bruce Campbell. You'll feel better, even if it's just Bubba Ho-Tep.
