Yes, it deviates from the books in a lot of ways. Except in the sense of awe and in the scale of the world. It is a fantastic show that much like The Expanse, shows that a good story is worth a lot. Even more when it is so masterfully told with a suberb cast.

Yes, it is relatively slow paced. Yes, some of the secondary characters are somewhat bland at first. It is a show that does not get everything right. But what it does right, it does with a bang. The 2 main characters and their parents feel so real that is scary good. Wonderful acting and excellent writing. It was a show that deserved a second change and at least a second season.

Good actors in a boring setting with dull dialogs. Couldn't watch more than 3 episodes.
