I don't get why audiences find this to be a funny or tear-jerking movie. For the most part, dialogue was far from clever and the acting felt so forced. The concept was not so bad. It's about Lara Jean, a girl who writes "love letters" to her crushes and hides them. Somehow the letters get sent and she has to confront her insecurity and learns about family, love, and being herself.
That's cool, but what's not is that Peter, one of her ex-crushes fake dates Lara Jean to make his ex Gen jealous, which I feel is cliche and doesn't make the movie super interesting. Some more drama happens, but it's not as important as Lara Jean's relationship with Peter it seems. I wish there were some more complications to make the movie more unpredictable. The writing and acting makes some events feel so unrealistic and therefore I have less sympathy for some of the characters, because I feel like I don't really know them or anything.
Lara Jean is pretty cool character and I will say some parts of the movie were well-written and what. But there wasn't many plot twists except for one which I don't want to spoil for those who haven't seen. The ending was not that amazing either.
The book is better I read part of, it's better than the movie.
