FDFS-Mumbai saga. A film on the various gang activities, gang wars, politician-criminal- police nexus and the famous encounter specialists, somewhere from 1980-2000. To be honest there have been so many movies on the topic that the film appears a bit out of fashion, jaded. The protagonist Amartya Rao and his brother are probably the gangster duo of Amar and Ashwin naik.. Amar played by John abraham and ashwin by Prateik babbar. Then there are characters similar to Arun Gawli( gaitonde) and Late Shri balasaheb thakray (bhau).
Sanjay gupta tries it hard to make it glamorous and stylish but in vain. Some major mistakes in the story and some gross faults in characterisations are unpardonable. e.g. Balasaheb is shown as too frivolous and a small time gangster like politician( of course what do you expect from some non marathi film makers carrying grudges against Balasaheb, who have never understood the marathi manoos philosophy).
Star caste has done ok. John has done this before in Shootout at wadala. A new experience for Emran hashmi as a police inspector( late Vijay salaskar who killed amar naik in a socalled encounter). No chance here for smooches and songs. Also objection to the way the inspector is shown to be killing people randomly. The last scene is too dramatic when we all know salaskar killed amar naik in broad daylight at byculla. Again no mention of D gang and chhota rajan against whom Naik and Gawli were fighting and also with themselves.
Overall entertaining but too loud and too primitive. Rating 3/5
