I will be the first to say that I am a HUGE Twilight fan (the books, not the movies) and in my opinion, this book fell short. It didn't live up to the expectations I had in my head which were that we were going to get an insight into, not only Edward's mind and emotions but also his back stories. In all the books, Stephanie mentions that vampire minds are vast and they can think of many many different things at one time. In my mind, I hoped that it would reveal many more 'origin type' stories that really molded Edward's character, made him who he is today. Yes, we know Carlisle created him for a companion, we know he ventured off on his own for a while and he returned because of his conscience but there was such an opportunity here to reveal more short story memories of Edward's but instead, it seemed that it was just Edward droning on and on and on about his own guilt and selfishness. Yes, these are important parts of his character but I still feel like it was an opportunity missed.
