My least favorite Star Trek. It’s like they set out to make a show with almost no white men. So tons of women - I am a woman and I still like a balance. The men they do have are often gay or trans. In fact, I believe the casting director decided to make this the “LGBTG Star Trek”. I certainly don’t mind some episodes devoted to love stories that have been marginalized or ignored in Hollywood, but it’s the main stage every single week. There are almost no traditional male female love stories or relationships. The main character sort of has one but it’s not highlighted. Secondly, it is the “Revenge of the Nerds Feelings Star Trek.” There are so many scenes of marginalized characters expressing their deep seated fears, resentment, need to emote, and etc - this part feels very un Star Trek like. Once in awhile sure - every week?! No! So aside from all that needy, weak emotional characters whining every week, the science ideas are good if not great - that is why I watch. The other thing is that Bernum doesn’t have the leadership or charisma of previous captains, so I constantly cringe trying to see her fill the shows of Janeway, Picard, Shatner, ….she just doesn’t have that strength of character and her voice overlay is annoying. She should be a number 3 on the show. The woman who was killed off Michelle Yeoh- who was in the alternative universe too - she had the leadership, the charisma, and really importantly - the acting skills. Bernum constantly reminds us that she is acting…. In fact, generally the acting across the show is weaker than many other treks! I love Book - he’s an incredible actor. Captain Gabriel - real actor can totally leave the fourth wall in tact. Hugh Culber - great actor - why isn’t he still a main character? Saru - ugh. You know one of the lessons from previous Star Treks - make your aliens at least interesting to look at - not gross. When he comes on the screen, I go refresh my coffee. Worf - handsome and increasingly handsome! Spock - super cool looking! Saru? Gross and icky. Make him a villain please! Can’t say enough how Using Burnham to narrate and voice over in her annoying voice - ugh! And stop lightening her skin with make-up. She is beautiful just as she is - just not a great actress and definitely not captain material.

I wish they weren’t picking and choosing what they are following and what not. Perrin married and killed his wife? No! Moraine is supposed to be tiny - extremely short and beautiful. Lan - extremely tall and not attractive but very fierce looking. Ageless doesn’t mean pumped up with face fillers - she’s a horrible Moraine! Egwene - not even close. And they never had sex! Omg - did the casting director even read the books? The Wheel of time has racial identity from one land to another but they mixed it all together - obliviating what Jorden created! Couldn’t you have tried for a little charisma with some of the characters? Game of Thrones got it right there - maybe you need to hire their casting director! And for Pete’s sake - reread the books!
