Great story, great acting, perplexing ending.

Great performances all around, but particularly Oldman and Siegfried. Sometimes it works too hard to be witty, and many times I wanted color (the entire movie is in black and white, no opening onto Oz with its brilliance when the protagonists get to Hearst Castle). A bit too long, but worth it in the end with Mankiewicz’s final quip on accepting the Oscar.
